Read to a Dog & Reading Buddies for Younger Siblings

Event Type: Children's
Age Group(s): Grades K-5, Tween
Date: 9/20/2017
Start Time: 4:00 PM
End Time: 4:45 PM
Description:
This program provides a relaxed,“dog-friendly” atmosphere which allows students to practice the skill of reading.
By sitting down next to a dog and reading aloud, all threats of being judged are put aside. Children relax, pat the attentive dog, and focus on their reading. Reading improves because the child is practicing the skill of reading, building self-esteem, and associating reading with something pleasant.
Read To A Dog is a great way to improve literacy.
Children will read to a dog for five minutes.
This program is for independent readers only-grades K-5. There will be teen reading buddies for younger siblings as well as for the K-5 set to practice with prior to their "dog time."
