Daoine (pronounce “DEE-nee”) is the Irish word for “people”. The band Daoine is a group of musicians and their friends whom love to get together and play great Irish music and share it with listeners – from dance music like jigs, reels and hornpipes, to hauntingly beautiful airs and songs. Irish traditional music that, while played for centuries in Ireland and America, continues to inspire and continues to find a new voice with each generation. Their music has a fire and energy to it, while striving to stay true to its roots. The Irish band’s instruments include fiddle, uilleann (Irish) pipes, bodhran, whistle, flute, guitar and banjo. Daoine’s principle members are Joe Dunne of Manasquan (Irish bodhran), Max Carmichaelor Red Bank (guitar), Brian Szura of Highland Park (Irish pipes), an Phil Weir of Keyport (fiddler). The group has played at the Raritan River Festival, the Reformed Church of Highland Park, Middletown Library, Arts in the Park and at St. Bartholomew’s Church.
